The Scottish Government have published information about the transfer of ILF from the UK to Scotland. Existing ILF users will be transferred automatically and will continue to receive their ILF. The Fund will also be open to new users from 2016.
The UK Government made a decision on 6 March 2014, to close the Independent Living Fund (ILF) on 30 June 2015.
The UK ILF is working with the Scottish Government to look at how users in Scotland will be supported in the future.
The Scottish Government have said they will protect users’ current awards in Scotland as long as they remain eligible.
They will develop a national system along with voluntary organisations to support existing users from 1 July 2015.
The ILF will continue to support all users until it closes on 30 June 2015.

A Scottish ILF system will be developed by working with -
- Scottish Government
- Disabled people
- Disabled peoples organisations
- Local Government
- Social workers
Transferring to the Scotland Independent Living Fund
The Scottish Government have been working with:
- The ILF in Nottingham
- Self Directed Support Scotland
- Other voluntary organisations
on transferring all Scottish ILF users to the new arrangements.
A project board has been set up to make sure everything needed to make this happen smoothly will be in place.
New Scottish ILF users
New users will be able to apply for ILF using £5 million of new funds from the Scottish Government.
Whilst the project board will mainly be working on the transition for existing users. It will also support some early work around forming the fund for new users of the Scottish ILF.

Frequently asked Questions
Will the ILF keep going in Scotland?
The Scottish Government will form a Scottish ILF in 2015 working together with voluntary organisations.
Payments to existing Scottish ILF recipients will begin in July 2015 after the current ILF closes in June 2015.
Will my current award change?
As long as you continue to meet the eligibility criteria your current award will remain the same.
Any changes to your award will take place through a visit or direct contact with the future Scottish ILF.
How will I know what is happening around the creation of the Scottish ILF?
There is Project Board to manage the creation of the Scottish ILF.
One role of the Board is to consider the best way to communicate with current and potential ILF recipients, as well as all other interested people.
Who sits on this Project Board?
The Project Board is made up of organisations that represent disabled people, their families/carers, local authorities, social work and the Scottish Government.
The Board is jointly chaired by the Scottish Government and the voluntary organisations.
Will the Scottish ILF be open to new applicants?
The Scottish ILF will be open to new applicants in 2015/16.
Will I receive my funding after 2015/16?
The Scottish Government will ensure future awards are made to users subject to continued funding from the UK government in 2016/17.
