22/05/07 - No disabled person will be forced out of a job in factory closures, says Remploy |

Remploy has assured the Scottish Disability Equality Forum that no disabled person will be forced out of a job despite factory closures. For a number of years Remploy has been moving towards mainstreaming opportunities for those with disabilities by working to remove barriers and expanding reasonable adjustment. In a controversial move Remploy plans to close three sites in Scotland at Aberdeen, Glasgow and Wishaw, with another 40 closures UK-wide. Despite criticism from unions, a number of disability organisations, including SDEF, are supporting the programme to support more people with disabilities into mainstream employment. The changes should provide people with opportunities to progress in real jobs. Encouraging people into mainstream employment and increasing aspirations of disabled employees and employers is a progressive move away from sheltered work with sometimes limited opportunities. Copyright Scottish Disability Equality Forum 2003-2007 |
