Rail passengers with visual impairment should find travelling easier thanks to new signs installed by First ScotRail.

Camelon station now boasts `extra large` signs alerting people that it is the stop for the new Forth Valley Sensory Centre, which is due to open next month and is just yards from the platform.  It follows requests from disabled groups who hope to use the centre.

The rail company is also looking at the possibility of introducing audio messages on trains to tell passengers when to alight for Camelon.

Billy Watson, chairman of the Forth Valley Sensory Centre Trust, welcomed the new signs.  He said “It is the small changes that go a long way in making a difference.”

Bruce Bishop, convenor of the Stirling VIP`s (Visually Impaired Persons), said the improved signs would make a big difference to those travelling to the new centre, which is currently under construction.

He added: “It is big enough to be clearly seen and for anyone who may be nervous about travelling or unsure as to when to get off the train, this will put minds at rest.

First ScotRail service quality director, Fiona McCallum said: “We are confident this small change will go a long way in helping a large number of people.”
