20/5/05 - Orange mobile phone provider to withdraw "Wildfire" |
|
|
Wildfire is a service provided by Orange to enable mobile phone customers to access their phone book and messages without needing to read the screen or touch the buttons of their handset.
From 1st July 2005 Orange are withdrawing this service, which has proved to be an invaluable assistant to visually impaired people.
“In Touch” from the BBC has highlighted this and is backing a campaign to lobby Orange to reconsider and keep the service.
Not only is it a useful tool for visually impaired mobile phone users, it is the only mobile provider based voicemail system in the UK that is legal to use on the road while driving.
