�50 fine for bay abusers
Following
a survey for the RAC Foundation which found that 500 people (14% of drivers
questioned) admitted abusing disabled bays, two major supermarket chains
have begun fining non-disabled people who abuse disabled parking bays in a
clampdown on misuse.

Tesco
and Asda have launched nationwide trials to punish drivers without a blue
badge who use disabled bays. Tesco is running the trial in 20 stores and
charges �50, reduced to �25 if fines are paid within 14 days.

The
ASDA trial covers 100 stores, and the fine is �40, which is reduced to �20
if paid within ten days.

Both
stores say non-payers will risk being taken to court. An Asda spokesperson
